Pisces New Moon Overview

This is an interesting new moon coming up on Monday. Our weekend leading up to it falls in the balsamic phase of the current cycle. The balsamic phase is the time that the current phase is winding down and going into darkness before the new moon sprouts out of the darkness.

This weekend is a time to get plenty of rest and recharge your energy. Not only do we have the new moon coming up on Monday morning, but we have a significant energetic shift coming in March. I should say ‘shifts’ because there is more than one significant event.

In March, Saturn moves from Aquarius into Pisces for a two and a half year visit. That will happen right at the Virgo full moon, the culmination of this Pisces new moon cycle. Later in March on the 23rd, Pluto will move from Capricorn to Aquarius. Pluto has been traveling through Capricorn since 2008.

March holds a big shift for all of us. As we go into the Pisces new moon, I think it would benefit you to think about the next few months, beyond the new moon this Monday. Somewhere in your chart the signs Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces each hold positions in one or more houses.

If you have your astrology chart, then take a look at which houses hold these signs. Then you will have a better idea for which people, topics, and events are going to be activated in your chart by the shifts of Saturn and Pluto.

Pisces is the sign of this upcoming new moon taking place early Monday morning, or late Sunday evening if you are on the west coast of the US. Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and is the sun sign for those born later in February and through the first two thirds of March (roughly).

Then the Sun moves into the first sign of the zodiac, Aries, which marks the Equinox and the beginning of the astrological year. The Equinox is one more significant event that is coming in March. Equinoxes mark the time of the year where we experience equal amounts of day and night.

I love the symbolism of the solstices and equinoxes as cycles that help us recognize the ebb and flow of balance in our life. The equinoxes and solstices are one of nature’s ways of reminding us to recognize where in life we are maintaining balance, and where we need to make adjustments.

The new moon in Pisces is quite lovely. Pisces as the expression of energy has to do with seeing the beauty and unity in things. Pisces are highly intuitive and often those with a Pisces Sun, Moon, or Rising sign have a heightened sixth sense. It is a sign known for wanting to help and can sometimes be the person who sacrifices themselves for others.

Pisces energy is creative, artistic, views the world through rose colored glasses, and identifies with wanting to merge or unify. Pisces sees the wholeness of ‘we are all one together’ and has difficulty separating out the self, which is why self-identity is sometimes difficult for Piscean folks.

When you consider the element water takes the shape of whatever container it is in, you get an idea of the expression of Pisces. Pisces is of the water element and mutable mode, which means changeable and adaptable. Pisces is the most fluid, changeable, and adaptable sign of the zodiac leaving them sometimes unsure of which direction to go.

The Pisces new moon kicks off a cycle which is going to contain the significant shift of Saturn moving from Aquarius to Pisces right at the culmination of the full moon in Virgo. A great way to work with this new moon energy is to prepare yourself for change. Something that Pisces is very good at.

A change is gonna come. I hear the Led Zeppelin song in my head as I look at the messages coming to us through astrology, through the stars. While we can’t know exactly what that will look like, we can get a pretty good idea from astrology.

Pisces being the last sign of the zodiac implies a cycle is ending and a new cycle is beginning. This coincides with the Sun’s journey through the zodiac signs and the seasonal changes of the year. Plus this year, the two major planetary shifts of Saturn and Pluto.

Yep, a change is gonna come! Adaptable and changeable Pisces is here to remind us that big change requires us to be fluid, bendable, and open. Rigidity tends to break where adaptability helps us bend in the wind of change without breaking. Tapping into the intuitive Piscean nature, we are called to trust ourselves and lean into change.

I think that is what this year’s Pisces new moon is about. How we can prepare to adapt, shift, bend, and move with the winds of change. While at the same time keeping our eye on our most important life mission and purpose. We don’t want the shifts of time to blow us completely off course.

But we also want to navigate the storms of change in the best possible way. My way may look very different from your way because we have different charts, lives, goals, needs, and desires. Different parts of our lives are affected, and our makeup of character and personality are different.

Focus on yourself, your needs, your desires. This new moon is ripe and ready for some changes. The weekend is best used for resting up and reserving your energy so you are ready for whatever comes your way. As we move through the balsamic weekend, we will have a significant amount of Aquarian energy around.

Silhouette face with a mix of beautiful colors.

The Pisces new moon takes place in the very beginning of Pisces. Plus Venus is moving out of Pisces into Aries within 24 hours of the new moon. Shifts abound! But before this watery new moon, we have this Aquarian energy that may be calling you to socialize as the Moon will still be traveling through Aquarius over the weekend.

Mercury, also traveling through Aquarius, is experiencing a few different vibes from planets at the new moon too. With Mercury activated, your mind may be activated. Getting rest and relaxation may not be what you want. The key is to seek balance. Go out, have fun, and chat with your friends this balsamic weekend.

Just be sure not to go all out. Don’t expend so much energy that come Monday’s new moon you are exhausted. Start this new moon cycle rested up and raring to go. March is going to start these major shifts. They are long-term shifts, and like a new moon, may just be a new seed planted in your unconscious.

It takes time for the energetic messages to unfold when slow moving planets like Saturn and Pluto change signs. For some, this shift may be apparent immediately, from the start. This is likely for those who have planets or important chart points in the signs Aquarius and Pisces.

For others, who don’t have something directly activated in your chart, it may be an inkling of change, but nothing significant. Lots of new cycles are kicking off over the next four to six weeks. To really see how this is unfolding in your life, check your astrology chart and journal about your experiences.

Journal about your thoughts, feelings, actions, and interactions with others. Get your astrology chart if you don’t already have it. You can get it for free online here. Once you have your chart, you will be able to find where the signs Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces fall in your chart.

Like the sign of Pisces, under the new moon, engage with your creative side. Indulge in some daydreaming, art, creativity, helping others, and seeing the unity and wholeness of life around you.

Pisces New Moon and Planetary Activity

Mercury

Mercury is activated under the Pisces new moon in three aspects. A trine with Mars in Gemini indicates that our minds may have more chatter than usual. A sextile with Jupiter brings in optimism and big ideas.

A square with Uranus breaks up patterns of ruminating thoughts. It can bring on surprising thoughts or it can feel like constant electric pings that seem like you can’t pay attention or focus on anything.

Soothing your mind is called for over the weekend and early next week as we move from the darkest part of the ending balsamic cycle into the darkness of a new seed being planted in the new lunar cycle.

Lavender is a great essential oil to diffuse to help calm your nerves with Mercury activated in the sky. If you have planets or points in Aquarius, you may feel extra jittery over this time period. Take care to soothe your mind if it is overactive at this time so you can plug into the unity and wholeness of the universe surrounding us.

The Moon

The Pisces new moon is moving away from a sextile with Jupiter. It is nice even if it is fading. Jupiter in a sextile with the Moon is a supportive mix that can bring messages of hope and optimism through your dreams. You may want to daydream more, and engage in visioning of what you want to manifest in your life.

Venus

Venus is in the very last degree of Pisces and will move into Aries shortly after the new moon. Pluto is in the very last degree of Capricorn and moves into Aquarius on March 23. These two tango in a supportive connection in water and earth signs, receptive signs.

This is energetic grounding, merging, power of relationship with others, empowerment, and recognizing your power. Negative manifestations can be overly obsessed with power roles, whether having power over, or feeling overpowered. This short period of time at the new moon can open up your eyes to power dynamics in the different relationships in your life.

I hope you take some time to recharge your inner batteries this weekend. Prepare yourself emotionally, physically, and mentally for any changes and shifts that may enter your life. Know that areas of your life that have not been activated for a long time may suddenly become more prominent.

None of this is to be feared. Change itself is a constant. I think the inspirational quotes for the Pisces new moon sum up quite well the message of this lunation.

Essential Oils for your Diffuser

  1. For adaptability and balance diffuse clary sage. Mix it with lavender for calming and soothing yourself as you prepare for changes on the horizon.

  2. Geranium for stabilizing and releasing what you no longer need as we move into a new moon and new phases of Saturn and Pluto.

  3. Peppermint for adapting to new phases in life.

  4. Rosemary to help open your mind to change.

  5. Bergamot and lime blended for some pep and to uplift your mood.

Pisces New Moon Intentions

  1. Do your new moon intentions after the new moon phase begins.

  2. Set your intentions around opening to change in your life.

  3. Do your intentions in or near water. This can be tricky with a pen and paper. Writing next to a beautiful body of water could be highly inspirational. Even somewhere with a view of water would be nice. If the weather doesn’t permit being outside, go to a place where there is a beautiful indoor fountain, an aquarium, or write right before or after a bubble bath.

  4. Meditate to the sound of water, or get a small desktop fountain you can run while you are setting your intentions.

  5. Set intentions around listening to your inner intuition.

Pisces New Moon Activities

  1. Spend the balsamic weekend before the new moon by getting extra rest. Build up your reserves so you start the week off rested up and ready to go on the new moon Monday.

  2. Take walks by the beach, lake, or pond near you.

  3. Visit your local aquarium and see the tank as one unified existence. The look at the individual living beings coexisting together. Now apply this to your life. Think about your local space and all the people in it like where you work, hobbies, leisure activities, friends, shopping, and restaurants all as one. How are you moving together in rhythm? Now think of yourself as separate entities. Notice the different responses you have to feeling unified as part of the system, and how you feel as separate.

  4. Do something of a spiritual nature with like minded friends. Visit a rock and gem shop, get an astrology or tarot reading, go to a yoga center, or a metaphysical bookstore.

  5. This new moon highlights more than the new moon beginning, it represents a time when we are on the cusp of a few significant planetary shifts that will last a long time. Take an honest look at where adapting and changing would benefit your life right now.

  6. Do anything that opens up your creative side. See a show, paint ceramics, do wine and paint, sing at a karaoke place, go to an art museum, or play a musical instrument.

  7. Rest and recharge your energy more often. March is going to bring some large shifts and you want to be charged up and ready to take on change with grace and adaptability.

  8. Listen more and offer help for the sake of helping and being of service. Volunteer for an organization that helps others.

  9. Evaluate your self-care plan and ensure that you are taking just as good of care of yourself as you are of others.

  10. If you have psychic abilities, you may find that you are even more attuned and sensitive during the new moon. Take care to protect and shield your energy so you are not overwhelmed with the energy of others.

Pisces New Moon Journaling Prompts

  1. Write about your self-care plan. How does it recharge your energy? Do you follow it regularly? Is it enough to take care of your needs so you can be of service to others?

  2. If you don’t have a self-care plan, write one that you can start using right away.

  3. For example getting a massage once a week or month, meditating every morning, getting walks most days, taking short breaks from your desk and moving your body, shutting off all devices a few minutes every day, or ensuring you get enough sleep.

  4. Evaluate your balance in caretaking others and caretaking yourself. Do you fall in the middle where you feel balanced? Do you over give and sacrifice your time, needs, and resources for others? Are you stingy with caring for others and could benefit from listening more and extending a helping hand?

  5. Write about what you enjoy as it relates to opening your creativity. Remember that creativity is defined by you. To help figure out what this is, think about the things that you do that you enjoy so much, you lose track of time and wish you could do more of it. Maybe it’s daydreaming. Define your version of creativity and what it looks like.

  6. Once you write about what it is, write about how you can do this more often and/or incorporate it into your self-care plan.
